New students must submit a portfolio to be admitted into the Art Department.
Portfolios must be in one of the following formats:
Include a printed list of all your portfolio pieces that includes medium, size, concept, software used, etc.
Your portfolio should include 12 to 15 original works. You can include personal projects and anything you completed in high school art classes or private lessons.
Your portfolio should demonstrate artistic technique, style, conceptualization and creativity. If possible, include works that represent your chosen major. If you'd like to major in photography, for example, try to include photographs in your portfolio.
Include a variety of media, if possible:
In addition to your portfolio, you must also submit a short essay (250-300 words) describing your goals and how they relate to your chosen major. Please include a hardcopy of your essay with your portfolio.
Portfolios must be picked up no later than 10 days after submission. Only CD portfolios will be returned by mail. Please include a padded, stamped, self-addressed envelope if you would like us to return your CD portfolio.
If you would like to be considered for an Art Talent Award, your portfolio must be submitted to the Art Department by February 15. Portfolios may be submitted after February 15, but we can't guarantee award monies will still be available.
Your portfolio must be left with the Art Department 2-4 days for evaluation. You will be notified by mail if you receive an award.
Art Talent Awards are only available to incoming freshman students and transfer students from another school's art program. Once you have registered for classes, you cannot receive an award.

"I would not be where I am today without the education, opportunities (both in and out of the classroom environment) and experience that I received throughout my time at Marywood University. Most importantly, what stands out to me now are the relationships that I formed with former professors who have become lifelong mentors."
