Communicating At The Speed Of Imagination

The Communication Arts Curriculum at Marywood University provides students with a comprehensive education in the communications discipline. It is a broad based program that allows you to explore advertising-public relations, digital media, audio/video production (including film as video production) and journalism. On the graduate level, you will examine a range of fields and issues, including health communication, media management, video production, media and the law and the new communication technologies.

You will also have an opportunity to work in our state of the art facilities, including

  • High Definition Television, Broadcast and Cablecast facilities.
  • 24 hour operated Radio Station.
  • Modern Journalism, Design and Layout Lab.
  • Digital Learning Lab with music and imaging hardware and software.
  • Audio and Video editing Suites.
  • Students have ready access to facilities and equipment.
  • Faculty and staff are available to help students plan and create their productions.

Who We Are

The department prepares students to assume roles as communication professionals in television and radio stations, film, advertising and public relations firms, media industry, newspapers, and other public and private organizations.  The jobs range from television, film and music producing to desktop publishing specialists to media reporters to administrators.

The department also echoes the university's goal to provide an education directed toward the self-development of a fully human person; to pursue truth and academic excellence; and to provide an effective learning environment while fostering concern for the environment, justice, and peace.  Students are also encouraged to develop critical, creative, and independent thinking skills and to examine contemporary issues while fostering an awareness and appreciation of a pluralistic society.

The Undergraduate degree has one proposed and three standing program options:

  2. Advertising and Public Relations
  3. Journalism (Electronic and Broadcast)
  4. Ad Hoc Program in Communication Art

 

You select a program upon entry in the department and/or in consultation with the department Chairperson.

The Graduate degree has five program options:

  4. Corporate Communication
  5. Interdisciplinary (you design your program with an advisor)

Professional Internships

Internships provide practical experience under the direction of qualified professionals at cooperating organizations in all of the areas of specialization in Communication Arts. An internship may be arranged with organizations in various geographical locations to meet the student's career objectives.
