About

(during Sexual Assault Awareness Month)

Marywood University joins in the national effort in providing its "Release the Light" Sexual Assault Awareness Program. April is designated as National Sexual Assault Awareness Month and communities and colleges across the nation will be joining together against crimes of sexual abuse. The purpose is to increase student and community awareness for the need of violence prevention and reducing incidents of sexual assault on college campuses and in the community.

In conjunction with Release the Light will be a tree planting ceremony for Kristina Adams at 11AM near the Chapel, Swartz Center to which we welcome faculty, staff and students in memorializing Kristina.  Kristina was a 2006 graduate of Marywood's Interior Design Program.  She lost her life in August 2012 as a result of domestic violence.

Following the tree planting ceremony, the program will start with a Let Your Feet Speak mile March through campus from 11:30am-12 noon to speak for all those who have been affected by domestic violence, beginning and ending at Nazareth.  From noon to 1:30pm we will hold a Food and Information Fair, with acoustic guitar music and vocalists and also speakers available to cover topics on a variety of relationship violence topics.   There will be an assortment of food (lunch, desserts, drinks, and snacks) donated by Chartwells and other local businesses.   Also, raffles will include two $25 VISA gift cards and more!

All students, faculty, and staff are welcome!
