Media Storytelling Focus at COMM Week
From April 16-20, 2012, the Communication Arts Department celebrated COMM Week—a week full of communication-related events—with an emphasis on media storytelling.
Several events were featured, including a COMM Week Media Conference, in which more than 100 local high school students participated. Marywood Communication Arts seniors also presented their capstone projects to the campus community during the Senior Showcase. Also featured was a panel of communication arts alumni that discussed “Media Storytelling.” Dolores Nolan ’77, Vice President of Membership at the Radio Advertising Bureau in New York City, served as moderator. Panelists included David Graf ’06, Multimedia Producer at Runner's World magazine; Regina Lanzo ’95, station operations manager for ION Media; Bonnie Longbotham ’90, Director of Creative Services at Longbotham Strategic Marketing; Erica Mahady ’03, Organizational Development Consultant for Lehigh Valley Health Network; and John Sabia ’04, Producer at MTV.
In addition, Marywood’s chapters of Public Relations Student Society of America and Society of Collegiate Journalists organized the collection of the nutritious, non-perishable food items collected throughout the week at the various events. All of the items were donated to Friends of the Poor and all donations were matched by a Feinstein Foundation grant.
Alumni panelists Jeanne Aber, Erica Mahady, John Sabia, and Regina Lanzo spoke with students about the media industry and their careers.
Megan McGraw '12, digital media major, talks with a high school student about video editing.
