James G. Gavin Elected to Board of Trustees
Sister Anne Munley, IHM, Ph.D., Marywood University President, recently announced that James G. Gavin, Scranton, PA, has been elected to Marywood’s Board of Trustees. In addition, the new slate of officers elected for the 2013-2014 year includes Marion Munley, J.D., Moosic, PA, Chair; Ann R. Henry, Ph.D. ’73 Flemington, N.J., Vice Chair; Antonia M. Schierling ’60, Rockville, MD, Treasurer, and Michael E. Bugno ’88, Roswell, GA, Secretary.
Mr. Gavin works collaboratively with state and county officials, as well as other behavioral health stakeholders, to ensure the delivery of clinically effective, accessible, and cost-efficient behavioral health services. He has over 40 years of training and experience in behavioral health care, from clinical service delivery through executive management.
His professional affiliations include service as a board member and past president of Pennsylvania Community Providers Associates, where he also was chair of the organization’s Managed Care Task Force; membership in the National Association of Social Workers; and founding membership and service as chairman of the Community Behavioral Healthcare Network of Pennsylvania, for which he has also served as interim president.
Additionally, Mr. Gavin has been an active leader on a host of community boards and committees, including St. Joseph’s Center, Area Agency on Aging of Lackawanna County, Goodwill Industries, Holy Rosary Parish Council, IHM Sponsorship Education Program, IHM Peace and Justice Committee, and the Mental Health Association of Allegheny County. His current activities include board membership with the Wright Center for Graduate Medical Education and committee memberships with the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare’s Children’s Advisory and Quality Committees, Allegheny County’s Block Grant Advisory Committee, and the Children’s Cabinet for the Allegheny County Human Services Department.
Mr. Gavin, a licensed social worker in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology from the University of Scranton and two master’s degrees—a Master of Social Work and a Master of Managerial Science—from Marywood University.
