Marywood University is pleased to announce that Music Education major, Mollie Nora Host, from Montrose, PA is the winner of the 2014 Charlotte Plummer Owen Memorial Scholarship presented by the Women Band Directors International. Sponsored by Susan Bissiri, this is an annual scholarship given by the Women Band Directors International. It is awarded to a deserving female college student of Music Education who aspires to become a band director. In order to be considered for the award, Ms. Host was required to complete a rigorous and comprehensive application that included an accounting of her past achievements and her current music activities at Marywood University. In addition, she submitted letters of recommendation from those familiar with her body of work including her current band director and Marywood faculty member, Dr. F. David Romines.
WBDI is an organization in which every woman band director is represented at the international level regardless of the length of her experience, or the level at which she works. It is the only international organization for women band directors, and is intended to serve as an association, which supports, promotes, and mentors women in the band field.
Previous winners of this scholarship come from every geographical region of the country and include the 2006 recipient Alison Redar, Assistant Director of Bands at the University of Notre Dame and former student of F. David Romines at the University of Georgia.
