The Nutcracker Returns to Marywood
For the past 37 years, The Nutcracker Ballet has come to Marywood, an annual holiday tradition that has been seen by more than 350,000 people throughout its history at the university.
Continuing the tradition, Marywood and the Ballet Theatre of Scranton will present The Nutcracker Ballet free to the community. The performances will be held December 26-28 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. in the Sette LaVerghetta Center for Performing Arts.
Tickets will be distributed starting two hours prior to each performance for that specific performance at the theater.
Ann Hopkins O'Neill, conference director, explained the importance of this annual event for the university and greater community.
"The Nutcracker is a Christmas tradition here at the university," O'Neill said. "It is a great opportunity for the people in the community to experience a performance of this caliber in Scranton. It's a free performance and allows many people, who may not be able to afford an event like this otherwise, to be able to take their children and family to a first-rate performance."
Marywood's Office of Conference and Event Services coordinates the planning and logistics of the performances of The Nutcracker Ballet each year, along with the Ballet Theater of Scranton.
