Student Handbook: Letter from the Vice President of Student Life

[Dr Ray Heath]Dear Students:

Welcome!

It’s a special pleasure to greet you as the 2012-13 academic year begins and to introduce the first edition of The Student Handbook that is accessible exclusively in electronic format. Responses to a community survey about the preferred format for The Calendar/Student Handbook influenced this decision that is expected to have several benefits. In particular, the handbook section that follows will be as current as possible since revisions and new policies will be included more quickly.

Please read the handbook with close attention to the varied learning and leadership development opportunities available. As your goals and plans are clarified, consider becoming involved in and ultimately a leader in some aspect of campus life. The talents, skills and interests of truly involved students often develop more fully. Commit now to active participation in a few of the clubs and organizations, performance and publication groups, athletic teams, honor societies, etc. described.  The outcomes should be lasting when you begin a career and accept service and leadership roles in your future communities.

The expectations of all members of this academic community are stated clearly. Policies and regulations should be read carefully. All students - undergraduate and graduate, full and part-time - will be expected to know, understand and follow the guidelines. Developed collaboratively with the faculty and staff, these expectations are intended to assure that all behavior influences the community positively and enables all to achieve their individual goals.

Information about cultural, social, athletic and other programs of interest on and off-campus is updated regularly at: marywood.edu/studentactivities/. Check this resource regularly to learn more about activities on campus, in the city and across the region.

With best wishes for a challenging and fulfilling year!

Sincerely,

Vice President for Student Life
