Assistant Director SALD

Hours:

35 hrs. per wk, 52 wks. per yr., 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM;  some evening and weekend work required.  

Summary of Duties

Reporting to the Director of Student Activities and Leadership Development, the Assistant Director will aid in all aspects of the office’s operation, services, and student staff within the Office of Student Activities and Leadership Development (SALD).  Primary duties include the development, planning, and programming of campus-wide student events (with an intentional focus on cultural competency and leadership training), supervision of the university programming board, and oversight to all undergraduate university clubs and organizations.  The Assistant Director will collaborate with a variety of university offices to create inclusive, engaging, and student-focused activities and will play a large role in the New Student Orientation program and the creation of new and innovative first-year experience/transitions programs.



Requirements

  • Educational:

    Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Personnel Administration, Student Affairs, or related field is required.  

  • Work Experience Requirements:

    0-1 year of full-time experience in Student Affairs.

  • Special Qualifications:

    Driver's license required. Candidates must possess a clear understanding of student development and have a demonstrated knowledge of the importance of co-curricular programming on student learning. Must be an enthusiastic self-starter, with demonstrated ability to take initiative and use sound judgment to resolve problems in a diplomatic manner.  Should demonstrate cultural competence and have experience working with diverse populations.Must work collaboratively with all levels of staff, faculty, and campus departments.   

  • Essential Elements:

    Strong interpersonal and organizational abilities, technological competence, and the ability to manage multiple projects.  Candidates who understand and appreciate the University's Catholic mission and values are encouraged to apply. 

  • Other Elements:

    Excellent verbal, written, oral communication, presentation and networking skills are required.  Event planning and student activities programming expertise is desirable.  Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends.  Understanding of programmatic assessment and evaluation. Ability to assist in developing innovative marketing techniques to promote all SALD programs and services. Update SALD website and social media platforms. Serve on university committees and fulfill other short-term duties.  Assist Director with Orientation training programs, Fall Welcome Week, Family Weekend, and other projects as assigned. 

  • Physical Demands:

    Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
