Chief of Campus Safety

Summary of Duties

The principal purpose to this Position:

  • Direct and manage Marywood University's Campus Safety function.  
  • Responsible for the protection and security of all University properties.
  • Provide high standards, good public relations and a safe and secure environment for Marywood University.
  • Enforcement of the University policies.
  • Provide oversight supervision of campus safety staff.

Primary Responsibilities to include:

  • Provide management and leadership in the University's security function.  Plan, organize, execute, and control the work activities of the security personnel.
  • Conduct fire, safety and security inspections to identify problems.
  • Recommend safety solutions to the Assistant Vice President for Building and Grounds.
  • Respond to emergencies on campus.
  • Direct Campus Safety officers on procedures for investigation, follow-up and reporting of campus incidents.
  • Work closely with local emergency response agencies.
  • Serve on committees as requested.
  • Investigate complaints on personnel and discipline as appropriate.
  • Oversee all department safety equipment.
  • Attend training relevant to the position.
  • Submit Annual Security Report in compliance with the Jeanne Cleary Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Ace.
  • Maintain monthly crime records for Uniform Crime Report.  Enter statistics monthly on line.  Post URCR Act 1988-73 yearly for committee review.
  • Post statistics for Annual Fire Safety Report for community review.
  • Attend training relevant to the position.
  • Maintain daily and direct contact with supervisor and report any relevant developments as needed.


  • Educational:

    Bachelor Degree in a related field a plus

  • Work Experience Requirements:

    Minimum five (5) years supervisory experience in security/law enforcement in a higher education setting.  Knowledge of security systems is desirable. 

  • Special Qualifications:

    Must pass a background check and receive required child abuse clearance checks.  Must maintain First Aid/CPR/AED certification and be willing to attend required training by the department.

  • Essential Elements:

    Must have excellent interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication skills.  Ability to handle confidential information.  Ability to monitor and manage a budget.
