Marywood University’s Department of Music, Theatre, & Dance seeks qualified applicants for a full-time, tenure track position as Theatre Program Director beginning August 2014. The program director supervises undergraduate degree programs in theatre; musical theatre; theatre education 7-12; and theatre arts administration. Candidate must be able to nurture and maintain an underlying ensemble philosophy wherein students experience all aspects of theatre, potentially becoming artists with multiple artistic skills. Will need flexibility and creative problem-solving skills along with a strong commitment to the profession. Must possess ability to work collaboratively with University colleagues and with industry personnel in an apprenticeship-style program.
Responsibilities include: teaching undergraduate courses according to expertise; academic advising; facilitating recruitment and retention for the program; selecting and directing/producing theatre repertoire; establishing performance calendar and integrating theatre productions into the academic program; and directing main stage theatre performance and major musical within the academic year rotation. The program director oversees all theatre production activities and is responsible for budget and facilities needs for the degree programs.

Ph.D. in theatre or related field preferred (MFA considered). Candidate must have at least three (3) years successful university teaching in both academic and theatre performance areas; familiarity with NAST curricular and assessment practices; directing experience in academic setting required; directing in non-academic, professional theatre venues preferred; administrative, organizational, and communication skills (written and oral); ability to promote professional partnerships with area schools and professional agencies. A record of scholarly contributions/creative endeavors and commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching is essential.
