Feast of St. Alphonsus Liguori
On August 1, the Church commemorates the death of St. Alphonsus Liguori (1696-1787), founder of the Redemptorists, and patron saint of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
It was through a Redemptorist missionary, Louis Florent Gillet, and Theresa Maxis, the co-founders of the Sisters of IHM that Marywood has been gifted with the legacy of St. Alphonsus Liguori: joyful participation in the redeeming mission of Jesus with special responsiveness to the cry of the poor and abandoned in our society.
A civil and canon lawyer, hospital minister, moral theologian, brilliant preacher, artist, musician, poet, and author of 111 books, St. Alphonsus is a Doctor of the Church and the patron saint of moral theologians and confessors.
Today we ask God for special blessings on everyone in the Marywood community. Happy Feast Day! St. Alphonsus, pray for us!

Great Discernment Opportunity
This summer, from August 8-9, Catholics on Call will be presenting its annual Young Adult Conference at Catholic Theological Union in Chicago. This retreat-like experience is designed to help people think deeply about the possibility of ministry in the Church, and it’s also a lot of fun! This is a great opportunity to meet other men and women who are on a similar path as you are on, and there is no pressure to join anything.
