C/SDC:

"Nothing to Hide" Mental Health Awareness Program

Wed, October 2, 2013

11 AM - 1:30 PM, Fireplace Lounge

The focus of this program is to dispel any stigma faced by college students with mental health issues. The program is both entertaining and inspiring as it involves many Marywood students and departments as well as an opportunity to make a pledge to help break down misperceptions about mental illness on Marywood's campus. Literature will be available about mental health and we will also have an array of informational tables on self-care and stress management.

There will be extra credit slips available at the Counseling/Student Development table for anyone interested in offering extra credit to attendees. Also, if you are interested in having a sign-in sheet for your class please contact Laura Chickson at 570-348-6245.

According to a 2010 American College Health Association survey, 44% of students have felt things were hopeless, 28% reported feeling so depressed that it was difficult to function and 46% felt overwhelming anxiety.

This event will encourage individuals to recognize the need for help in themselves and their friends, and educate them about the many resources available on and off campus.

The event includes representatives from various organizations on campus and in the local community, including the Student Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, MU Health Professionals, Music Therapy, ALLY, Campus Ministry, Diversity Club, Physicians Assistant Program, MU Human Trafficking Planning Committee, Chi Sigma Iota, POW!, Autism Speaks Club, Athletics & Recreation, Caritas Social Work Club, Student Support Services, Student Art Therapy, Psi Chi, Psych Club, Psychological Services Center, Vet Center, PASS Program, Chartwells, Pet Therapy, LRJ Suicide Prevention Foundation, Advocacy Alliance, Women's Resource Center, NAMI, DATS, and the list goes on.  There will also be food, prizes and interactive activities to promote self-care and reduce stress.
