U. G. Admissions

International Admissions Counselor


35 hrs. per wk, 52 wks. per yr. Hours vary

Summary of Duties

Responsible for (1) Recruitment of international graduate, undergraduate and intensive English students.  (2) Communicating with prospective international students and their families using a variety of methods.  (3) Representing the University domestically and internationally, collaborating with government liaisons, and speaking to school officials. (4) Processing data and reviewing applicants’ credentials for admission while maintaining a detailed record or work activity.  (5) Working with the current international student population in an effort to improve recruitment procedures.(6) Counsel prospective international students on immigration regulations and requirements for F-1 status. (7) Assist with the current international student population in an effort to improve recruitment procedures. (8) Assist with addressing students' questions in the Office of Admissions and Recruitment by answering phone calls, meeting with students and families, and supporting all aspects of student recruitment through the Office of University Admissions. 


  • Educational:

    Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, master preferred.

  • Work Experience Requirements:

    At least 3 years of experience in College Admissions.

  • Special Qualifications:

    Must have a valid passport, knowledge of current world events, public speaking skills, well-developed interpersonal skills. Must have a high attention to detail, a valid driver's license, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. An ability to work well as a member of a team. Computer literacy a must. Fluency in a language in addition to English or experience living or traveling abroad.

    Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills; the ability to represent the college effectively to various audiences; ability to cultivate an inclusive, diverse, and welcoming environment; ability yo treat all people equitably and with a sensitivity and awareness to cultural difference. A fundamental concern for individuals and their families as they pertain to and fit into various educational programs.  Ability to articulate the entire enrollment process to a student from application to visa appointment to arrival at campus.  Since this individual is one of the principal persons responsible for the projection of the public image of Marywood, the counselor plays an important role within the institution.  In addition to these elements, a counselor is expected to adhere to the Principles of Good Practice of the National Association of College Admissions Counseling, Marywood University. 

  • Other Elements:

    Physical Demands; This individual must be able and willing to invest extended periods of time reading, writing, speaking, driving, and making presentations. Travel is required with evening commitments as well as overnight stays for a number of days at a time. If representing the University at a recruiting event, prolonged standing is customary. Must be able to carry and move admissions display and materials. The individual may be required to work varied hours in order to communicate with others in different time zones.
