Undergraduate Laboratory Instructor in Biology (#53)
Summary of Duties
The Marywood University Department of Science, Mathematics, and Computer Science seeks an undergraduate Laboratory Instructor in Biology; this 9-month position will begin in Fall 2019. However, we expect summer teaching which will begin in May 2019.
Responsibilities: Teach Biology lab courses at the undergraduate level; responsibility for scheduling and leadership of adjunct lab instructors; development of laboratory procedures and conduct of labs. The successful candidate will be a leader in Biology laboratory execution, ensure the consistent conduct of all sections of laboratory courses, and develop rigorous rubrics for laboratory courses to be consistent among instructors. This individual will work closely with the tenured Biology faculty in the department to ensure academic rigor and consistency in content of the labs as well as with the department Laboratory Manager for coordination of supply and equipment needs. This individual will be expected to attend department faculty meetings and engage in service to the department and to the University. This individual is expected to teach laboratories during the summer sessions as well as the standard academic year; summer teaching is compensated as overload for this full-time, 9-month position.
The Department of Science, Mathematics and Computer Science offers Bachelor’s degrees in Biology Pre-Professional, Biotechnology, Environmental Science, Pre-Physician Assistant, Mathematics, Computer Science and Medical Laboratory Sciences. It also offers a non-thesis Master’s degree in Biotechnology.

Required: M.S. in Biology, Biochemistry or related field, with evidence of excellent laboratory instruction is required. Applicants should present evidence of experience in preparation and teaching of undergraduate General Biology labs.
Preferred: Ph.D. in Biology, Biochemistry or a related field with evidence of excellence in laboratory instruction. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience teaching both Science majors and non-Science majors, such as Nursing and other health professionals. In addition, teaching experience in other Science labs, such as Microbiology/Immunology is also preferred.
