Chair & Associate Professor of Education (Grades PK-4/Special Education) (#717)

Summary of Duties

The Marywood University School of Education seeks a Chair and Associate Professor beginning no later than August 2020.  The successful candidate will be considered for an expedited tenure review.

The School of Education was established in 1915 and offers graduate and undergraduate programs in Early Childhood, Special Education, Reading, Secondary Education, K-12 School Leadership and Higher Education Administration. The School’s programs are approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Marywood University is a comprehensive Catholic university sponsored by the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Requirements

  • Educational:

    Required qualifications include: A Doctorate in the field of Education or closely related field; experience in higher education teaching in the area of PK-4 and/or special education; and established research and scholarship record.  Preferred qualifications include: Preference will be given to candidates who hold early childhood and special education certifications and who can teach a combination of early childhood, special education, and general methods courses for grades PK-4; experience in higher education administration and leadership. 

  • Essential Elements:

    Faculty Responsibilities include:

    • Teaching and advising at the undergraduate, graduate and/or doctoral levels.
    • Engaging in research and scholarly endeavors.
    • Mentor research for master’s and/or doctoral level students.
    • Participate in external funding and grant opportunities.
    • Participate in service to the university, the discipline, and the local educational community.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Chair Responsibilities include:

    • Provide progressive leadership to the department.
    • Lead faculty in curricular development.
    • Develop and implement department plans, goals, and policies with faculty input.
    • Prepare the department for accreditation and evaluation.
    • Manage department budget.
    • Supervise staff.
    • Evaluate faculty and staff.
    • Other duties as assigned.
