Job Description Detail

Full-time, tenure-track faculty -Assistant Professor (#252)

Summary of Duties

The School of Architecture at Marywood University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning in the fall of 2019. We seek individuals with the ability to engage students in an iterative design process related to architectural compositions that are thoughtful, experimental, and tectonically sound.

The successful candidate will have expertise in Interior Architecture with the demonstrated ability to teach design studios at the introductory and advanced levels as well as more specialized courses in one or more of the following areas: innovative graphic representation for interiors (hand and/or digital), novel strategies for adaptive reuse of interiors, and design thinking for interiors.

As a professional school in a liberal arts university, our accredited Architecture and Interior Architecture programs set a rigorous studio-based curriculum within an educational context that encourages critical inquiry into the built environment. From interior objects to urban environments, this inquiry informs a disciplined practice as the means by which we engage the world at a range of scales with conceptual and formal clarity, disciplinary consciousness, social agency, and material speculation. This practice conditions the Architecture and Interior Architecture programs through shared courses and faculty that seek to uncover broad overlaps, points of transfer, common values, and shared skill-sets between and among the two disciplines.

Accordingly, candidates who draw productive critical connections between architecture and interiors and who hold an informed position on the broad cultural and technological forces that act upon and constitute architectural interior environments will be favorably considered.

All tenure-track faculty members are expected to establish and engage in a teaching agenda, scholarly agenda, and service to the University and broader community.
