All students benefit from Marywood's commitment to provide all students with state-of-the-art technology. This commitment includes access to the Internet, as well as access to dozens of academic software packages in twenty-eight computer labs and drop-in centers around campus. Further, students who own computers may have them linked to the campus network in their dormitory rooms. Computer lab software includes, but is not limited to, Microsoft Office, web page development tools, web browsers, specialized art, business, education, music and science software and statistical packages.
The Library, located in the Learning Resources Center (LRC), situated at the heart of the campus, maintains a collection that includes a wide array of books, print periodicals and non-print items. An electronic public access catalog provides holdings and availability information for the collection. It is accessible via the Internet. In addition, numerous electronic databases are also available through the Library’s website.
Academic Computing provides audiovisual, graphic, photographic, television, multi-image and technology equipment services to the campus. More than hundreds of pieces of equipment are provided for campus-wide media support services.
Two state-of-the-art multimedia theaters offer large screen viewing of videos, films, slides, computer input, and satellite programming. The 180-seat Lynett Multimedia Room is located in the Media Center and the 100-seat Comerford Auditorium is located in the Center for Natural and Health Sciences. In addition, a state-of-the-art interactive videoconferencing facility is located in the Media Center. Video and audio connections to state, national and international resources are available.
Students at Marywood, whether they major in Health and Physical Education or participate in sports for personal challenge, have access to a wide array of athletic facilities. You'll find a gym, aerobics room, racquetball courts, a weight room, pool, tennis courts and new, expanded playing fields.
In addition to the facilities for sports participation, you'll find a well-equipped Athletic Training room which allows students in the Athletic Training Program to gain experience in the use of whirlpool, ultrasound, electric stimulation, and orthotron.
Nutrition & Dietetics
The Nutrition and Dietetics program is located in the Keith J. O'Neill Center for Healthy Families which houses:
- food science laboratory
- healthy demo classroom
- food sensory laboratory
- computer lab
- research center
The Nursing Department is located in the new Center for Natural and Health Sciences. You'll find specialized computerized programs, including CAI (computer-assisted instruction) and NCLEX preparation software, and interactive video capability. General word processing and statistical software is available in the lab as well. In the nearby Learning Resources Center, you'll find 600 non-print items directly related to nursing and medical science, 134 journal subscriptions related to nursing and medical science and the research collection including The Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, International Nursing Index, and Index Medicus.
Physician Assistant Program
Most of the course work for the Physician Assistant Program is conducted in the Keith J. O'Neill Center for Healthy Families. In addition to laboratories, equipment, computer labs and numerous services and resources campus-wide, Marywood's Library is also a major resource for PA students, providing periodicals, journals and texts as well as on-line services as recommended by the American Academy of Physician Assistants.
The School of Social Work offers its MSW program in four locations. Marywood's main campus is in Scranton, PA. Additional sites are at DeSales University in the Lehigh Valley, Bloomsburg University and East Stroudsburg University. It offers field placements with agencies throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York, or in a student's home community. International opportunities are also available.
