Women’s XC Wins Fourth Straight Title

D’Achille outstanding in second career individual conference title

Marywood University claimed its fourth straight Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) women’s cross country championship in Philadelphia’s West Fairmount Park on Saturday, November 2, 2013. The Pacers had the top five finishers in the race for the second straight year and won by 45 points over second-place Gwynedd Mercy University. It was Marywood’s 10th women’s cross-country conference championship in program history. In his final season as head coach, Kevin Borrelli won his fifth CSAC Coach of the Year honor. Two weeks later, the Pacers earned the University’s first trip to the NCAA Division III Women’s Cross Country Championship in a record-shattering performance at the NCAA Mideast Regional in Bethlehem, PA.

In the CSAC Championship race, Senior Diana D’Achille ’14 was the individual conference champion with a 19:24 finish on the 5K course, running a 6:15 pace, and winning her second individual CSAC title—the only Marywood athlete in history to claim two individual conference championships. Defending champion Elizabeth Schwab ’14, at 19:32, finished eight seconds behind D’Achille for second place, with Samantha LaForgia ’15
coming in one second later (19:33) for third, both women finishing with a 6:18 pace. Alexandra Conniff ’15 tabbed a 20:14 for fourth place, followed by Emma Doughman ’16, who had a fifth place finish with a 20:21.

D’Achille, Schwab, LaForgia, Conniff and Doughman were all named first-team all-CSAC for finishing in the top seven. D’Achille and Schwab are the only two Marywood runners in school history to have four first-team runs.

Shauna McGraw ’15 and Kathleen Sylvester ’14 were named to the second-team all-CSAC, and Riley Marcks ’13 finished just four seconds shy of all-conference honors in her final conference race, but she was named to the conference all-Sportsmanship team.

D’Achille, Schwab, Sylvester, and Marcks closed their conference career with four CSAC championships.
