Marywood Has Top Graphic Design and Illustration Programs
Marywood University was recently notified that its Graphic Design program ranks among the top 10 in Pennsylvania, and its Illustration program ranks number 4 in the state and number 18 on the east coast for 2021, by Animation Career Review. The Graphic Design program at Marywood incorporates the study of design and type, conceptual development, design history, research, studio technique, and strategies for problem-solving. The Illustration BFA Studio Arts Track explores advertising, animation, books, children's books, comics, gaming, graphic novels, magazines, marketing, movies, music, packaging, posters, web, and many other areas.
The criteria used for the animation rankings consists of academic reputation, admissions selectivity, depth and breadth of the program faculty, value as it relates to tuition and indebtedness, graduation rate, geographic location, and employment data. During the school year, Animation Career Review reaches out to each of the schools under consideration to request information about their specific program, as well as their perspective regarding which other school programs they considered to be the most impressive, both nationally and regionally.
Marywood University offers a bachelor of fine arts (BFA), master of fine arts (MFA), as well as a minor in graphic design. Additionally, the MFA is a low-residency program. Other program highlights include the opportunity to work on real design projects, small class sizes, 24-hour access to fully equipped computer labs that are complete with Adobe Creative Suite and other industry-standard software. Further, students in the graphic design program have the opportunity to add a minor in areas including advertising, business, communications, illustration, and photography. Students develop a professional visual portfolio and participate in the University’s Senior Exhibition each year.
Illustration program highlights include access to the latest technology, courses taught by professionals in the field, internships and fieldwork opportunities, and study abroad experiences. Graduates of the BFA Program at Marywood are prepared to pursue careers in animation or game design, or titles such as 3D Illustrator, Caricaturist, Comic Book/Strip Artist, as well as courtroom sketcher, children's book Illustration, fashion illustration, game designer, greeting card illustrator, illustrator for graphic novels, editorial illustrator, medical illustrator, muralist, political cartoonist, publishing: book cover artist, stamp illustrator, storyboard illustration, technical illustrator, and many more.

Pennsylvania’s Interior Designers Pass Historic Legislation Elevating Marywood University’s Leadership in the Field
Pennsylvania has passed Act 144, a landmark law recognizing "Certified Interior Designer" as a protected title, requiring professionals to hold a four-year degree and certification through the Council for Interior Design Qualification (CIDQ). This legislation, signed by Governor Josh Shapiro, highlights the critical role of interior designers in ensuring public health, safety, and welfare, while distinguishing the profession from interior decorators.
