Uplifting, quick-paced, funny—these are the words Judith A. Snyder, M.F.A., production manager and set designer for Once Upon a Mattress, uses to describe the upcoming performance at Marywood University.
Once Upon a Mattress, a full-staged musical, will be presented at Marywood University's Sette LaVerghetta Center for the Performing Arts on Saturday, February 25, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, February 26, at 2 p.m. Admission: $12 General; $7 Senior/Student.
"We decided to do an old-style musical because the past few productions we've done have been modern and contemporary," Snyder said. "It's based on the well-known children's fairytale The Princess and the Pea."
Linn McDonald, M.Ed., director and choreographer, Snyder and the 24-member cast have their work cut out for them, rehearsing more than 25 hours per week for six weeks. When asked why anyone should attend the performance, McDonald—who has been performing and directing for more than 35 years—says Once Upon a Mattress is a classic.
"We all need some laughter in our lives, and I think this musical is an example of that," she said. "The cast members are having a good time in their roles, and that translates well for the audience."
