Marywood Celebrates Earth Day
Published on Fri, April 20, 2012
Although this year Earth Day is on Sunday, April 22, Marywood will celebrate it on Monday, April 23. The Marywood community is invited to participate in a number of activities across campus.
Events will begin in the Nazareth Student Center's Fireplace Lounge from noon to 3 p.m., where PUGWASH, the university's environmental group, will host various exhibitors, including sustainability representatives from PP&L and the Transition Society. Moreover, an environmental innovator, who converted a gas-consuming car to run on vegetable oil, will also be present. Chartwells will provide free food.
At 4 p.m. in the Comerford Theater, the Marywood community is invited to a panel discussion, "Marywood, How Are We Doing?" The panel will include faculty and representatives from the Arboretum and Sustainability Committees. The conversation will focus on the university's sustainability efforts.
The first Earth Day was observed on March 21, 1970. At present, it is celebrated in more than 175 countries worldwide.
