School Psychology Educational Specialist (Ed.S.)
The School Psychology Program at Marywood University has evolved in scope over the last 50 years and has as its firm foundation Marywood University’s tradition of service. This interdisciplinary program prepares ethical practitioners to be life-long learners, committed to enhancing the well-being of youth, families, and systems that serve them, in a rapidly evolving and increasingly diverse and interdependent world.
The School Psychology program follows the philosophy of the scientist-practitioner model and is competency-based, as per Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) and the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) standards. Student competencies are developed through participation in:
- professional development experiences
The program includes foundation courses in psychology, special education, and counseling, and substantive applied training specific to School Psychology.
The program is approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education and successful completion of program requirements is prerequisite for Pennsylvania State Certification as a School Psychologist.
The program consists of 75 graduate credits. Coursework is completed during fall, spring, and summer semesters.
- 45 credits are required for a master’s degree in psychology (general theoretical)
- 30 additional credits are necessary for school psychology certification (Ed.S).
Full time students entering the program at the master’s level complete the program in 3 years:
- 2 years of coursework
- 1 year (1200 hours) of a field based internship
