Architectural Studies Center

The School of Architecture is housed in this spacious adaptation of Marywood's former gymnasium and pool. The Center for Architectural Studies, which is LEED Gold Certified, is a testament to Marywood's commitment to sustainability. The building features a variety of "green" components, including a vegetative roof and an innovative heating and cooling system that utilizes geothermal energy from abandoned mine shafts beneath campus. 

The Center for Architectural Studies includes:

Bethany Hall

Bethany Hall provides housing for a small number of upperclass students. It boasts two kitchens and two living rooms. Bethany Hall is located on the edge of campus, adjacent to the Sette LaVerghetta Center for Performing Arts.

Center for Athletics and Wellness

The Center for Athletics and Wellness includes the 2,500 seat Insalaco Arena, as well as:

Day Care Center

The Fricchione Day Care Center is a great place for kids to learn and grow. It is open to the children of Marywood's staff, faculty, and students. Other children may enroll if space permits.

The Fricchione Center provides quality child care to those who wish to pursue career, personal, or educational goals. It is founded on the belief that children learn through interaction with other children and adults. The program strives to meet the developmental needs of each child within a multi-age group setting.

The Fricchione Center is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.

Early Childhood Center

The Domiano Center provides built in 2000, provides space for about 60 children in pre-school and kindergarten.

Emmanuel Hall

Emmanual Hall provides specialty housing for 25 upperclass students in primarily 4-person rooms. The residence includes a kitchen and large common area.

Healthy Families Center

The O'Neill Center for Healthy Families joins academic programs to innovative research. Students from the nursing, athletic training, nutrition and dietetics, and physician assistant programs have classes in this building. The O'Neill Center also houses the Human Physiology Lab.

Immaculata Hall

Immaculata Hall provides specialty housing for upperclass students in single occupancy rooms. The President's office is located on the first floor, along with administrative offices for the following departments:

Immaculata Hall is named in honor of Sister M. Immaculata Gillespie, IMH, Marywood's first dean.

Learning Resources Center

The Learning Resources Center houses the library, which boasts over 200,000 books and periodicals and over 15,000 print and online journals. The third floor is a fully-equipped computer lab and training alcove. User Support Services provides free computer workshops for students, faculty, and staff. There is a coffee shop in the library.

Liberal Arts Center

The Liberal Arts Center provides classroom space to students in the social sciences, english, and philosophy programs. The iconic Rotunda is at the heart of the Liberal Arts Center. Loughran Hall

Loughran Hall is a residence facility for freshmen. Its rooms are suites with shared bathrooms. The hall includes study and TV lounges on every floor and a 24-hour computer lab.

Student Health Services is located on the first floor of Loughran Hall.

Madonna Hall

Madonna Hall houses male and femaile upperclass students in 2-5 person suites with shared bathrooms. A limited number of single rooms are also available. Madonna Hall features:

Maria Hall

Maria Hall houses the University Advancement/Development Office. It's located between the Center for Natural and Health Sciences and the Post Office.

McCarty Hall

Across the street from Immaculata Hall is McCarty Hall, another specialty housing option for sophomores, juniors, and seniors. McCarty Hall houses 13 upperclass students in rooms with shared bathrooms. The house includes a kitchen and common area.

McGowan Center

The McGowan Center is home to the Reap College of Education and Human Development and the Business and Managerial Science Department. The Counseling/Student Development Center is also located here.

The building has state-of-the-art classrooms, computer labs, and controlled lab settings for the psychology and communication sciences and disorders programs. Students from the Education Department may utilize the Curriculum Lab, which houses hundreds of school textbooks, teacher manuals, and other teaching materials.

The Atrium serves as a casual meeting area for students with plenty of comfortable chairs and a pleasant courtyard view. The Atrium Cafe is also located here.

Media Center

The Media Center is home to Marywood's radio station, WVMW-FM, and the television station, TV-M. Also, two divisions of the Office of Information Technology can be found here:

Memorial Arch

One of the most recognizable landmarks on campus, the Memorial Arch stands at the main entrance to Marywood University. Built in 1902, it once marked the entrance to the Motherhouse, which was the location of St. Mary's Seminary. Marywood is sponsored by the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Memorial Commons

In 1975 the Memorial Commons was blessed and dedicated on the land where the Motherhouse (destroyed by fire February 22, 1971) had once dominated the campus.  The Commons is a ninety-foot concrete circle with walkways extending outward to major campus areas.

The large free-form granite monument taken in part from a shrine at St. Cecilia s Academy, the first I.H.M. Motherhouse in Scranton, which was also destroyed by fire in 1876. In this way, something from the far past is integrated into a new and very different focal point at the heart of the College campus. The monument bears the inscription: The Memorial marks the site of the first building erected at Marywood. It served both the general public and the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Nazareth Student Center

The Nazareth Student Center is the campus hub. The Main Dining Room is located on the terrace level, along with a lounge for commuter students. The first floor houses the Fireplace Lounge, two large meeting spaces (the Latour Room and Lynett Board Room), the University Bookstore, a café-style eatery called The Connection, a game room, and the Center for Student Activities and Leadership Development.

Performing Arts Center

The Sette LaVerghetta Center for Performing Arts is home to our communication arts and music, theatre, and dance departments. Its main attraction is an 1100 seat theatre. Throughout the academic year, you can catch a performance here and in the more intimate Black Box Theatre. The Marywood's orchestra, wind ensemble, and chamber singers often perform here. The building also includes classrooms and private practice rooms for students.

Perpetual Help Hall

Adjacent to McCarty Hall is Perpetual Help Hall, another specialty housing option on campus. This hall houses 14 upperclass students in single, double, triple, and quad rooms. The house is air-conditioned and boasts a full kitchen.

Printing and Mailing Center

The Printing and Mailing Center contains a post office that serves the entire campus. The printing and mailing of university publications is coordinated here.

Regina Hall

Regina Hall is a residence hall with primarly double occupancy rooms. A community lounge, kitchenettes, and quiet study areas are located throughout the building. The second floor boasts a large lounge with a TV, fireplace, and plenty of comfortable furniture.

The Liguori Center, located on the first floor, is used for conferences and receptions.

Rotunda

From its polished marble floors to its spectacular domed ceiling, the Rotunda is an iconic campus landmark. The Rotunda is part of the Liberal Arts Center. Its historic murals by Roman artist Gonippo Raggi illustrate the history and principles of Christian education. The Hall of Presidents, which displays portraits of Marywood's presidents, serves as the main entrance to the Rotunda and Liberal Arts Center.

The admissions office is accessible from the Rotunda.

Science Center

The Center for Natural and Health Sciences contains classrooms and labs for our math, science, nursing, and administrative studies programs. It boasts a newly renovated organic chemistry lab. The Comerford Theatre, one of two large lecture halls on campus, is located here.

Studio Arts Center

The Insalaco Center for Studio Arts is home to the Art Department. It includes facilities for drawing, painting, woodworking, jewelry-making, ceramics, sculpture, photography, printmaking, and graphic design. Private and semi-private work spaces are available to upper level undergraduate and graduate students.

The Insalaco Center features:

• Ceramics studio with kilns and glazing room
• Three dark rooms for both black-and-white and color photography
• Fullyl-equipped printmaking studio

Swartz Center for Spiritual Life

The Swartz Center for Spiritual Life is home to Campus Ministry and features the beautiful Marian Chapel, with its two-story stained glass doors that can be opened for special outdoor liturgical celebrations. Daily masses are held in the Marian Chapel.

Conference and Event Services is also located in the Swartz Center, which boasts meeting rooms that accomodate as few as 5 and as many as 100 people. Conference rooms are available to both the Marywood community and the public.

The Swartz Center, along with Loughran Hall, is located in the former Marian Convent.

Visual Arts Center

The Shields Center for Visual Arts is one of two facilities that serves art students. Its classrooms and labs are dedicated to the graphic design, art history, and art therapy programs. The Center for Visual Arts also houses three art galleries: the Mahady, Suraci, and Maslow galleries.

The Maslow Collection features more than 500 works by artists such as Robert Rauschenberg, Jasper Johns, Andy Warhol, and Chuck Close.

Woodland Residences
