"The Veteran’s Experience and the Expressive Arts” with Erica Funke
On Thursday, May 20, 2021, Professor Stephanie Wise, Marywood's Undergraduate/Graduate Art Therapy Program Director, appeared on PBS's public affairs program, "Keystone Edition Arts." In the episode entitled, “The Veteran’s Experience and the Expressive Arts,” Professor Wise speaks with host, Erica Funke, as one of three guest artists who are either veterans and who work with veterans using visual arts, film, and literature to explore the issues and emotions associated with military service. The goal of this work is to aid in post traumatic growth to add new meaning and purpose to life of those suffering from PTSD. These common symptoms of trauma can occur not just to Veterans of war but also to those affected by physical, emotional, and mental violence.

About Professor Wise
Stephanie Wise, M.A., ATR-BC, LCAT is a registered and Board Certified member of the American Art Therapy Association as well as a Licensed Creative Arts Therapist in New York State. She is a past member of the Art Therapy Credentials Board, past-Treasurer and Board member of the American Art Therapy Association and served on the Ethics Committee of AATA. Stephanie received her BFA from The Cooper Union and her Master's Degree from the Graduate Art Therapy Program at New York University where she also earned her certificate from the International Trauma Studies Program / International University for Mental Health and Human Rights, NYU & Copenhagen University. She has worked and presented in Asia, the Middle East, Europe and across the United States with particular expertise in the area of group therapy dealing with trauma, resiliency, and wellness. Stephanie has been instrumental in creating clinical opportunities for veterans, survivors of natural disasters, the children and first responders of 9/11,
Professor Wise has published extensively and most recently was lead author for the book, Healing Trauma in Group Settings: The Art of Co-leader Attunement, which she wrote with her professional colleague, Emily Nash. Published in November, 2019, this book represents the culmination of their 15 years of working together as group therapists.
