Assistant Professor - Tenure Track, Religious Studies

Summary of Duties

The Marywood University Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Religious Studies to begin August 2022. Area of specialization is open, but candidates must have a demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate-level courses that cover both Christian theology and world religions. Preference will be given to candidates who can teach upper-level courses on Catholic social ethics or the relation of the Church to non-Christian religions. Candidates must also be able to contribute in exciting and student-centered ways to Marywood’s new integrative Core and to the university’s growing interdisciplinary initiatives, including Black Studies, Latinx Studies, Environmental Studies, and Justice and Peace Studies. Requirements

Educational

A Ph.D. in Religious Studies or Theology (ABD considered). Demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate-level courses in Christian theology and world religions. Able to articulate how they will carry out Marywood's mission and core values through teaching and service

Ability to contribute to integrative Core and interdisciplinary initiatives, teach Catholic social ethics, and teach Church in relation to non-Christian religions are all preferred.

Essential Elements

Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate core curriculum courses and undergraduate courses in the major. Student advisement, commitment to scholarly is activities, and participation in university, professional, and community service are expected. Full-time teaching load is 4/3. Summer online teaching opportunities are available.

Required Documents

A completed Marywood application, cover letter, curriculum vitae, teaching statement, evidence of teaching effectiveness, unofficial transcripts, and contact information for three (3) references are required. At least one of the references should be able to speak about the applicant’s teaching ability.
