Music Students and Chapter Receive Top National Awards
The University's music education students and the Marywood Chapter of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) recently received top awards at the NAfME Convention, which was held in Washington, D.C.
Marywood University’s NAfME Chapter merited the Collegiate Chapter of Excellence Award and was recognized for its Music Celebrations. Harlow Alexander, music education student, and NAfME-C Pennsylvania State president, Pittston, Pa., received the NAfME-C Leader of the Year Award, as well as the Shannon Kelly Kane Scholarship.
The Shannon Kelly Kane Scholarship was created by Shannon’s family and friends in coordination with the NAfME to honor her exemplary life and her love of teaching music. Ms. Alexander accepted the scholarship at the convention from NAfME national president, Kathleen Sanz.
In addition to receiving top awards at the convention, Harlow Alexander, along with Quinn Roberts, music education student, Mountain Top, Pa; and Shannon Would, music education student, Bangor, Pa., met with Pennsylvania elected officials in Washington, D.C., to advocate for music education in the United States.
The National Association for Music Education is an organization of American music educators dedicated to advancing and preserving music education as part of the core curriculum of schools in the United States.
