Students Receive Commendations for Theatre Production
The University’s music, theatre, and dance department was recently notified that students in the department were awarded commendations for their work in its fall production of A Street Car Named Desire, by the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF).
Dr. Margaret Ball, respondent from the KCACTF, attended the Saturday evening performance. Following the performance, Dr. Ball sent notice to Charles Gorden, theatre program director at the University, that Helena Rankin, Groton, N.Y., junior theatre major student, has been awarded commendation for Excellence in Stage Management, and Tiffany Atkins, Tunkhannock, Pa., senior theater major, has been awarded commendation for Excellence in Lighting Design.
Additionally, Ken Doyle, Oceanside, N.Y., senior music theatre major, and Melina Barry, Clarks Summit, Pa., sophomore theatre major, have been nominated to participate in the Irene Ryan Scholarship Award auditions at the Regional KCACTF Festival that will be held at Indiana University of Pennsylvania in January 2018. Jakob Pepper, Honesdale, Pa., sophomore theatre major, will compete at the festival for recognition in Sound Design, and Dana Jackson, Dunmore, Pa., senior theatre major, will compete in the student dramaturgy category.
Charles Gorden, theatre program director, said, “Needless to say, I am extremely proud of our students’ accomplishments and the recognition that they received from KCACTF.”
