The School of the Humanities and Honors Program at Marywood University proudly unveils a comprehensive digital archive documenting the rich history of the Scranton Lace Company. This impressive collection was built by students in Dr. Adam Shprintzen’s Honors History class, Ethnicity and Diversity in the Modern World, as part of their final project for the Fall 2024 semester.
The project showcases the culmination of months of archival research, digitization, and interpretation of historical materials related to the Scranton Lace Company—a landmark of local industrial history. Students meticulously located, scanned, and analyzed a variety of primary sources, including historical photographs, newspaper articles, and samples of the company’s iconic lace products.
This collaborative project was conducted in partnership with the Waverly Community House’s public history program. Together, Marywood students and the Waverly Community House identified the Scranton Lace Company as a focal point for their research, recognizing its significance to the region’s cultural and industrial heritage. Notably, the former Lace Works factory is currently being revitalized as a modern living space, making the historical research particularly timely and relevant.
