“Making NEPA Home” Screening Brings Stories of Hope and Resilience to Marywood

Marywood University hosted a screening of Making NEPA Home, a WVIA original documentary highlighting the lived experiences of refugees and immigrants who have rebuilt their lives in Northeastern Pennsylvania.
The event, held on January 29 through the Mother Theresa Maxis IHM Center in partnership with WVIA, is part of the “We Stand Against Hate” initiative. The one-hour film follows four individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds who were forced to flee their home countries and have since created new beginnings in the region.
Students, faculty, and staff attended the screening and took part in a post-film conversation with filmmaker Kara Washington of WVIA. Discussion centered on themes of unity, inclusion, and social justice, as well as the importance of understanding the personal stories behind migration and resettlement.
The event provided an opportunity for reflection and dialogue across the campus community, reinforcing Marywood’s ongoing commitment to fostering understanding, compassion, and meaningful engagement with issues of diversity and human dignity.
