Communications:Instructional Grade 7-12 Certification

Direct Your Love of Theater to the Classroom Setting with Communications Certification

Do you have a love of theater? Would you like to help students learn how to apply their creative selves in communication?

Communications teachers help students bring meaning to their experiences and the experiences of others through the use of language and all those behaviors, verbal and nonverbal, associated with the usage of language. The primary component of theater – dialogue – provides a uniquely effective method for studying the communicative functions of human language. The certification area includes: English, theater, and non-print media.

Our communications certification program provides professional theater and communication techniques training and pedagogical instruction to prepare you to work in secondary school settings. This certification allows you to teach English language arts, theater, speech/public speaking, journalism, and non-print media in grades 7-12.

Teacher certification requires a minimum GPA of 3.0, completion of field and student teaching experiences, and passing of PRAXIS tests.

  • Professional theater/communications techniques training and pedagogical instruction
  • Certification includes English, theater, and non-print media
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 required

Certification Information:

  • Teacher certification requires completion of an approved program and qualifying scores on state tests.
  • On the undergraduate level, students must earn their bachelor's degree in their specialty area and in education.
  • On the graduate level, students can pursue the certification only or the certification and the MAT degree.
