Honorees Erin and Richard Kane
Marywood University will honor Richard (Dick) and Erin Kane, Dalton, PA, at its annual signature fundraising event, Celebrate Marywood, on May 1, 2025. The festivities will take place outdoors at the Motherhouse and Seminary Morgan Memorial Garden in the heart of Marywood’s campus. Proceeds from this event will directly support vital campus improvements and enhance the Marywood student experience.
Celebrate Marywood is a reimagined version of the University’s former Community Leadership Celebration. Former Trustee/Board Chair Dick Kane and his wife, Erin, are dedicated community advocates. The Kanes will be honored with the Inspire Award during the event, which recognizes those who demonstrate a deep commitment to the mission and core values of Marywood University, to advancing the common good, and to inspiring positive action. In their lives and in the work that they do, honorees make a meaningful and enduring difference in the lives of others. The Kanes have made remarkable contributions to Marywood University and many organizations across Northeast Pennsylvania.
Dick Kane is a retired 40-year logistics industry veteran who began his career working in daily operations at Kane Is Able, Inc., Scranton, PA, a business his grandfather started in 1930. Dick truly enjoyed working alongside his father, brothers, sisters, and daughter in their family’s multi-generational business. Together, with this family/management team, they grew the business from a regional transportation and warehousing operation into a national supply chain company with Fortune 500 customers. Dick holds a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Scranton. A former member of Marywood University’s Board of Trustees with distinguished service as the Chair of the Board, he was educated by the IHM Sisters during his formative years. Dick has also served on numerous Boards and family businesses. He currently co-manages Kane Properties, a real estate property company.
Born to an Army family, Erin O’Grady Kane and her siblings traveled the U.S. and abroad as children until they settled in the Abingtons in 1973. Erin is a retired clinical nurse and college educator. She holds a BSN from College Misericordia, Dallas, PA, and an MSN from Widener University, Chester, PA. She maintains contact with many of her former students, some of whom have gone on to be advanced practice nurses. Erin was a staff nurse at Mercy Hospital in her early years of practice, then taught in the medical surgical/critical care areas of local hospitals under the auspices of the University of Scranton. Erin is an avid horseman, as she cares for her ponies and horses at Sugar Mountain Farm, Dalton, PA, where she and Dick reside.
In addition to being proud parents to three daughters: Hilary, Chelsea, and Shannon, Dick and Erin also are proud grandparents to Dylan, Murphy, and Cora Lyle.
