Ceremony Set to Commemorate Veterans
In commemoration of Veterans Day, Marywood University’s Office of Military and Veteran Services will lead activities to honor those who are serving and who have served our country on Friday, November 10, 2023, at 11 a.m., at the Field of Flags in Tree Stadium, located between the 2300 blocks of North Washington and Dimmick Avenues, on the University’s campus. The event is free and open to the public.
Jeffrey Rutter, Psy.D., a clinical psychologist and psychology professor at Marywood University, will serve as guest speaker. Dr. Rutter completed a residency in clinical psychology and served as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Air Force before pursuing his academic career. He is a second-generation Air Force veteran and was a first-generation college student. He resides in Scranton with his wife, Anne. The couple has three adult children, two of whom live in Tennessee, and one who lives abroad in Sydney, Australia.
Robert Piurowski, vice president of enrollment management, will offer remarks. The ROTC Color Guard will present the colors, and “Echo Taps” will be played by Isiah Ortiz, a student trumpeter from Marywood’s Music, Theatre, and Dance Department, while Marywood student vocalist Beatrice Chindemi will sing “The Star-Spangled Banner.” The ceremony site will feature Flags for the Fallen, an outdoor display of thousands of U.S. flags that honor those who have fallen while serving our country.
Marywood University has been recognized consistently for its commitment to veteran and active military students and is the only local institution that has been recognized by U.S. News and World Report as a Best College for Veterans.
