Virtual Architecture Students Bring Virtual Ice Carving Experience to Scranton Downtown on Ice

An innovative addition to this year's Scranton Downtown on Ice festivities will include a Virtual Ice Carving Hut, led by Marywood’s Virtual Architecture students, under the guidance of Ryan Scavnicky, Program Coordinator. This interactive virtual reality experience brings the magic of ice sculpting directly to participants near and far, serving as a hub for creativity, education, and engagement.

Through the Virtual Ice Carving Hut, visitors will have the opportunity to create their very own virtual ice sculptures using state-of-the-art VR equipment provided by Marywood University. This hands-on experience allows participants to unleash their creativity while exploring the intersection of technology and art. Additionally, live-streamed ice carving demonstrations from talented local and regional artists will showcase the intricate techniques and artistry that transform blocks of ice into stunning works of frozen art. Behind-the-scenes footage and artist interviews will also provide an exclusive glimpse into the creative process.

The Virtual Ice Carving Hut isn’t just about observation—it’s about participation! Guests will be able to access interactive tutorials, download carving templates, and even try their hand at virtual carving activities. Whether you're an aspiring artist or simply a curious spectator, the hut offers something for everyone.

The goals of the Scranton Downtown on Ice festival include fostering community engagement, and this partnership with Marywood University is a wonderful opportunity to achieve this mission. It also highlights Marywood’s outstanding reputation and its highly regarded Architectural program. Scranton Tomorrow is committed to supporting this initiative through press releases and marketing activities to further showcase the innovative virtual architecture program. By blending technology with tradition, the Marywood Virtual Architecture Community Virtual Ice Carving Hut ensures that the spirit of the festival remains accessible, inclusive, and cutting-edge.

All are invited to attend the event to celebrate art, community, and winter wonder in a fresh and engaging way.
