Nourished by community, driven by purpose: Ariannah's story
For Ariannah Watkins, Marywood wasn’t just close to home—it felt like home.
“I chose Marywood because it was close to home and it felt like home to me when I stepped on campus,” she said. “It was also one of the schools with a good nutrition program, which was really important to me.” Now a proud student in the Nutrition and Dietetics program, Ariannah is making the most of every opportunity that comes her way. Thanks to the financial aid she receives, she’s been able to focus on her education and get involved on campus.
“I receive financial aid, and it has helped me a lot with affording to attend the university,” she shared. Her Marywood experience so far has been filled with connection and growth. She’s built strong friendships, volunteered with the Student Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and even attended creative trips with the art students, reflecting her openness to experiences beyond her major.
One of her proudest roles is serving as a Campus Connector with the Office of Student Advancement—a position that has allowed her to engage with the Marywood community and help other students feel the same sense of belonging she did. “I’ve been empowered by being part of clubs, trips, and events on campus,” Ariannah said. “It’s helped me grow and get more involved.”
When asked about the most important lesson she’s learned so far, her response is simple yet meaningful: “Be kind—and it’s okay to take a break when needed.” Looking ahead, Ariannah has her sights set on working in a hospital setting in the field of nutrition and dietetics.
Marywood, she says, is equipping her with the knowledge, tools, and support she needs to get there. If given the opportunity, Ariannah would offer a heartfelt thank-you to the donors who make her experience possible. “I would give a huge thank you to them for helping me and other students to be able to achieve our goals for our future.”
And when it comes time to walk across the stage at Commencement?
“I’ll feel a sense of accomplishment—but also a little sad, because I won’t be able to make more memories here at Marywood with my friends.” For Ariannah, Marywood is more than just a university. It’s the beginning of a meaningful future—and a place that will always feel like home.
