Brianna Florovito
Brianna Florovito, the new Director of Career Services at Marywood University, brings with her a wealth of experience and a passionate drive to support students in their professional journeys. A Scranton native, Florovito's career path is a testament to her commitment to workforce development and community engagement.
Her career began at the Pennsylvania CareerLink, where she worked in workforce development, helping to match unemployed individuals with local employers. This role honed her skills in career counseling and program development, which she later built upon during her tenure at the Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce. There, Florovito focused on developing business-education partnerships and managing business incubators, fostering the growth of local startups and tech companies.
In her previous role as a business instructor at Lackawanna College, Florovito's passion for helping students find their career paths grew stronger. "My goal has always been to empower students to take charge of their careers and navigate their paths confidently," she says.
This dedication to student success led her to her current position at Marywood University. Florovito's top priorities in her new role are raising awareness about the services offered by Career Services and creating strong partnerships with businesses and community organizations. She is determined to ensure that students are well-informed about internship, volunteer, and job opportunities in their fields, so they are in demand upon graduation.
"Building relationships with employers is key to providing our students with real-world opportunities and valuable feedback," she explains.
Although she has only recently started at Marywood University, Florovito has already identified a common challenge among students: the overwhelming task of starting their career planning. Reflecting on her own experiences, she notes, "I remember how daunting it was to navigate my career decisions in college. It’s important for students to know they’re not alone in this process."
Her personal journey resonates with her approach to career services. After graduating with a degree in sociology, Florovito faced the challenge of finding a job that aligned with her skills and career goals. Balancing professional aspirations with personal responsibilities, such as raising a family, has given her a unique perspective on adaptable career planning.
“The road to a fulfilling career often involves unexpected turns and detours. My experience has taught me that flexibility and persistence are crucial,” she shares.
Florovito encourages students to take initiative and reach out for help, emphasizing that exploring different career options and gaining experience through internships or shadowing can be invaluable.
“Don’t be afraid to explore various career paths and seek guidance. The more you engage with your options, the clearer your path will become,” she advises.
As Florovito settles into her role at Marywood, she looks forward to building strong relationships with faculty and continuing to enhance the career services available to students. Her proactive approach and extensive professional background make her a valuable asset to the Marywood University community, committed to helping students achieve their career goals and succeed in their professional lives.
